Merry Opening Day, and a Happy New Year!

Happy Opening Day, everyone!

I don't count yesterday, because Yankees/Red Sox hype is annoying and I choose not to participate and create a false sense of demand. Yankees/Red Sox games are like the blood diamonds of baseball. Just say no.

But today is like all the best holidays rolled into one. I really think Opening Day should be a chocolate/presents/day off work kind of holiday. I just need a stronger lobbying force in D.C. to get it done.

I sure wish we weren't starting out the season on the west coast, though. Because A) I worry too much about our boys when earthquakes hit and B) the Pacific time zone is only cool when you live there.

In other sort-of baseball-related news, I was bummed to see the Indians 3B coach Steve Smith booted off Amazing Race last night. Steve and his daughter were my 2nd favorite team, in spite of my divisional loyalties.

Send me a petition for the chocolate/presents/day off work lobby thing. I'll sign it. :-)

Merry Opening Day to you too, Sarah. May it be a great year.

You actually HAVE a lobbying force in DC? Man, I need your connections.
I will also sign your petition.
In conjecture with what you're saying about the Yankess/Red Sox, it is merely an attempt of Baseball Czar Bud Selig to show that he is the most amazing dufus of all time when it comes to baseball. How the man hasn't been impeached is beyond me. With all the stupid ideas he's come up with, he should really be in charge of something completely trivial like the NFL or even more appropriately, the NBA.

Careful, Jeremiah...ESPN's Peter Pascarelli made a joke about birds crapping on Selig's statue...and he hasn't been heard form since. Sleeping with the fishes, no doubt.

If you read your baseball history, you will discover that the commissioner is chosen by the owners, so said commissioner will almost never be beholden to the players or the fans or even the good of the game, but to his employer, the owners, and what the owners want, the owners get. The only time this changed was in the Bart Giamatti/Fay Vincent era, when I think the owners were surprised with what they got in the commish. And Vincent resigned due to pressure. (Well, also the Happy Chandler era, too, but I only know that because of a book we published about that era.) Selig deserves all the crap that he gets, and he'll never get impeached. After all, he was one of them. (Probably still is, I'll bet. It would not surprise me if he's running the Brewers behind the scenes.) Go Twins!

Thanks for spoiling me for The Amazing Race. =( Completely agreed that Opening Day should be a national holiday, though.

Sorry E. I just assume that the day after for a reality show is fair game. The results were all over the internet last night already.

I agree-- Opening Day is almost better than Christmas.

So who's your favorite team? I'll bet it's Brent and Caite.

LOL. Um...No. Although Caite's defense of "I've only been in TWO pageants!" made me laugh quite a lot.

My Amazing Race heart belongs to Cord & Jet.
