Ouch. The truth hurts.

MSNBC had a piece about how sucky things are for the Twins.

...with the unattainable financial parameters established at $125-million-plus for Johan Santana, it’s only a matter of time before he is traded.

When that happens, there will be only dismal short-term prospects for a team that dropped 17 games in the standings last season with Hunter, Silva and Santana on the roster.

Boy. Just when I had forgotten about how much that sucked. Thanks for the reminder.

Losing Santana, Silva and Matt Garza — dealt for Delmon Young — will mean losing exactly half the starts (81) and just more than 500 innings from last year’s staff.

That will leave a rotation of Liriano, Bonser and a handful of candidates with little big-league experience led by Scott Baker and Kevin Slowey. At least Liriano is expected to be ready to go in spring training after missing all of last season.

Yeah. It's a little terrifying to think about. And maybe Liriano will come back with a vengeance...but you never know after tommy Those Girls are preparing themselves for the possibility of Scott Baker as our Opening Day pitcher. Pitching to Torii Hunter. We're trying to be excited about it. After all, save that one time, Scotty Baker tends to pitch phenomenal games when we're in attendance. Mostly, I just feel a little nauseous though.

And you certainly can envision a July 31 trade-deadline scenario where the Twins part with Nathan, whose contract is up after next season, for more young pieces of the new puzzle.

Unfortunately, you also can envision the 2008 scenario of the Twins being more concerned with dropping behind the White Sox and Royals than catching the Indians and Tigers in the AL Central.

This is the worst sentence ever. I can't go back to the late 90s. I can't do it. Dear Sweet Jesus, don't make me go back.

Anybody know who these T-Wolves fans are? Maybe they will let us borrow their bags.

The picture of the Twins' 2008 rotation painted by that article is somewhat misleading because it fails to mention that the Twins will probably receive a player back in the Santana trade that would be plugged in immediately, be it Hughes or Lester.

A Hughes/Liriano combo has the potential to carry this team for many years to come.

To MSNBC I blow a big fat raspberry. :-)~ We shall see how the 2008 season plays out. I don't really think it's going to be as grim as they paint it. In fact, if a few things work out well, I believe it has the potential to be a good one.

Yeah, don't hang your head! Even if this next season sucks, it won't be like the 90s again, we have too many prospects. Someone will emerge as the next star.

I know things don't look so dandy over in twins land but I think 08 will be an interesting year. Especially in blogging I suspect.

Delmon Young?
Yes, haha.

I think the Twins will be ok, with or without Santana. Pitching is not what I'm worried about. Those tired Twins bats need to find their 2006 form.

I hate to say "I told you so" to people who thought we were going to get immediate pitching help in return for Johan, but....I told you so.
